Before the in-ring performance, the most important part for any wrestler is their entrance. Whether it is their theme song, their pyro work or their outfit, these are the first eye-catchers by the WWE universe present in the stadium or for fans watching at home. To gain the center of attraction most of the wrestlers use different kinds of outfits such as superhero costumes like wrestlers dressed in avengers costumes. For kids and anime fans, wrestlers who dress as anime characters might be the reason for their happiness. Let’s see how many times wrestlers have used anime gimmicks to impress their fans.

American professional wrestler Ricochet is a huge fan of anime series. He never misses watching an action anime series like Dragon Ball and My Hero Academia. He once even tweeted asking his fans how he can watch the Dragon Ball Super series.

On 31st October 2019 at Crown Jewel pay-per-view held in Saudi Arabia Ricochet was dressed as an anime character All Might from My Hero Academia. At the time of entrance, Fans were very impressed by looking at his outfit. He used this costume while he was booked in a 5-on-5 tag team match in Team Hulk Hogan vs. Team Ric Flair. He was a member of team Hulk Hogan which took the win at the end and was believed to be the face team.

American professional wrestler Montel Vontavious Porter, better known as MVP, is the famous WWE performer of his time. The leader and creator of the Hurt Business MVP seem to be a big fan of evil and badass characters in anime series. That is the reason most of the time he seems to be wearing a Punisher’s Skull logo on his outfit.

On 26th January 2020 at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view MVP returned after 10 years in WWE. He was 12th in the number to enter at Men’s Royal Rumble match where he was eliminated by Brock Lesnar. Apart from MVP returning to WWE his outfit took most of the attraction. His outfit was very much inspired by Black panther from the black panther TV series that started in 2010. It is also said by many fans that the dress was the replica of the Killmonger outfit from the movie Black Panther which was produced by Marvel Studio in 2018. Since MVP likes bad guys in anime series it could be related that the outfit he used was of the Killmonger as they both were having golden necklace designs around their necks.

American professional wrestler Liv Morgan started her WWE career in 2014. For most of the time, she was a heel character in WWE. She became more noticeable when she was booked in a feud with Lana.

On 26th January 2020 at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Liv Morgan entered at number seven. Her attire was similar to Spider Man’s Balck Cat. This Black Cat gimmick suits her very well due to her blonde hair as Black Cat also having the same hair color. Liv Morgan eliminated another diva wrestler Lana who was also dressed up as a superhero character. Lana was dressed up as Captain Marvel for the Royal Rumble and was the first to be eliminated in the Royal Rumble match by the hands of Liv Morgan.

The craziest tag team The New Day includes Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods and earlier Big E also. The faction was formed in 2014 and from then they have done many crazy things to entertain their fans. Xavier Woods never hides the fact that he is a very big fan of anime series and most of the crazy ideas came out of his mind related to The New Day.

On 3rd April 2016 at Wrestlemania pay-per-view, The New Day took their entrance wearing a Saiyan Armour suit and fans noticed it quickly. All the three members of The New Day seem very entertaining while jumping and dancing in Saiyan suits. Later it was revealed that it was Xavier Woods’ idea to dress up as Saiyan Warriors from the famous anime series Dragon Ball Z.

Rey Mysterio has used many anime characters in his attire to gain attraction. Some looks were just attained by using his mask and some by wearing full-body costumes. However, there are three most eye-catching full-body costumes that Rey uses in-ring. On 1st September 2018 at an All-In (Professional Wrestling event) Rey Mysterio was dressed as Wolverine with a yellow outfit and signature mask of X-men’s Wolverine. On 14th March 2004 at Wrestlemania 20 Rey Mysterio was dressed as The Flash with a Flashy Red outfit and on 26th October 1997 at WCW pay-per-view Halloween Havoc Rey Mysterio was dressed as a Phantom in a match against Late Eddie Guerrero.

On 30th August 2020 at Payback PPV Keith Lee was in a match with Randy Orton. This was his first PPV as the main roster and Kieth Lee wanted to make it more impressive for the audience. Keith Lee took his entrance dressed as Broly from the DragonBall series. In DragonBall, Broly is a character who is underestimated by his opponent but he starts getting powerful as he fights. Keith Lee is also a high-potential wrestler who has always been underestimated. And to show his potential he became a Wrestler who Dressed as An Anime Character.

On 25th May 2019 at AEW pay-per-view Double or Nothing, Kenny Omega was dressed as Kirito from Sword Art Online, a Japanese anime series. He took his entrance wearing the same black long coat which is the replica of the Kirito costume.

On 19 February 2020 at AEW weekly show AEW Dynamite Shanna became the sensational headline when she took her entrance dressed as Goku from the DragonBall series. She was booked in a match with Kris Stadtlander. Though she lost her match but she won everybody’s attention by becoming one of the Wrestlers who Dressed as An Anime Character. Her orange dress also had a signature mark like Goku used to have in his costume. To enhance her look she even used Goku’s Kamehameha and Spirit bomb moves towards her fans.

On 31st October 2016 on Raw, Big Cass and Enzo Amore were dressed up as Woody and Buzz Lightyear for a very unique kind of Trick or Street fight match between Enzo and Luke Gallows. Enzo took a win in his match but the main attraction was their costume, especially the plane wings which Enzo kept wearing during his entire match.

On 30th October 2010 at Smackdown in a Diva Costume Contest, The  Bella Twins were dressed as The Batman and Robin. The chemistry between The Bella Twins sisters is similar to Batman and Robin’s chemistry. The contest was later turned into a tag team match where The Bella twins took a victory alongside Melina and Kelly Kelly against Lay-Cool, Alicia Fox & Rosa Mendes.

The sweet little Alexa Bliss is an American Professional wrestler. She joined WWE NXT in 2013. Alexa loves to do cosplay and she is also among the Wrestlers who Dressed as An Anime characters. Alexa loves comic characters especially the villains. She is a big fan of Disney and Marvel characters.

On 11th September 2016 at Backlash PPV,  Alexa Bliss took her entry in a unique pink and blue outfit, and with a two-sided ponytail hairstyle, fans immediately came to know she was replicating Harley Quinn’s outfit. With her blonde hair, she suits so perfectly in that outfit that she continues the Harley Quinn-inspired gimmick for further more months. She even believed that it was her sinister look that took her to the top of the women’s division at that time.

Rhea Ripley is an Australian professional wrestler. She started her WWE career with NXT in 2019. She has always been a badass character wrestler. Her gangster look with her giant physique and short hair always suits her character.

On 5th April 2020 at Wrestlemania 36 she was booked in a match with Charlotte Flair for the NXT Women’s Championship. Keeping her character in mind she chooses one of the most badass anime characters for her outfit, and it was none other than Vegeta from the Dragon Ball series. Her White and Blue outfit with golden straps on it, makes her look even more aggressive. It seems like Rhea Ripley and Vegeta are characters having the same fighting spirit and attitude.

Conclusion

It seems that wrestlers always find a way to impress their fans. It is also very interesting to note that most of the time Dragon Ball’s character is the wrestler’s favorite costume to go for while choosing their outfit.
