Money in the bank match has always been the career changer for many WWE superstars as it guarantees that wrestlers who win Money in the Bank Contract briefcase could cash it in, at any time and at any place for a championship match. But there are still 6 wwe failed money in the bank cash-ins.

Money in the bank concept was first introduced on 3rd April 2005 at Wrestlemania 21. The idea of the concept was introduced by Chris Jericho and it was very much liked by Eric Bischoff and the WWE authorities.

For 4 year from 2005 to 2009 Money in the bank took place at Wrestlemania pay per view and after that a separate pay per view Money in the bank was introduced in 2010.

6 WWE Failed Money in the Bank Cash-Ins

Mr. Kennedy

Mr. Kennedy Money in the bank

Mr. Kennedy won the Money in the Bank contract on 1st April  2007. But after winning his MITB briefcase before he could focus on his cash in he got involved in a feud with the Edge. The ultimate opportunist Edge was successful in getting inside his head and on 7th may 2007 Kennedy put his MITB briefcase on the line and lost to Edge. Just a few days later at smackdown on 11th May 2007 after the Championship match between Champion Undertaker and Batista inside Steel Cage results in a draw and brutally assaulted by Mark Henry on his return, Edge successfully Cash-in his money in the bank contract to become the champion.

It is said that Kennedy was suffering from a torn biceps muscle and required surgery. That was the reason the storyline was changed.

In this way Mr. Kennedy became the First WWE superstar to win the Money in the Bank contract but could not become Champion. And also becomes the First to lose the money in the bank briefcase by putting it on the line to another wrestler.

John Cena

John Cena Money in the bank

The cenation leader John Cena won the Money in the Bank contract on 15th July 2012. After Rob Van Dam, John Cena became the second wrestler to give prior notice to his opponent about the MITB contract match. On 23rd july 2012 on the 1000th episode of monday night Raw John was scheduled for a championship match with Champion CM Punk against his MITB contract. As John was holding CM Punk in his submission maneuver STF Big Show interfered with the match and the match was disqualified. However the winner of the match was John Cena but the Championship belt remains with CM Punk as title can not be changed via disqualification.

In this way John Cena became the Second wrestler who won the MITB briefcase but could not become Champion. He also became the First wrestler who got his MITB contract title match and failed to win the championship.

Damien Sandow

Damien Sandow Money in the bank

One of the most interesting names in this list is Damien Sandow. He was very famous for copying other wrestler’s gimmicks. Damien Sandow won the Money in the Bank Contract on 14th July 2013. After three months on 28th October 2013 he cashed in his MITB contract on World heavyweight Champion John Cena after brutally attacking him with the briefcase but failed to win the championship as John Cena defeated him by delivering an AA and pinned Damien Sandow to retain his championship.

Now Danian Sandow became the Third WWE wrestler who won the MITB briefcase but could not win Championship and he was Second to lose after getting his MITB contract match and also First to lose by pin fall without any outside interference.

Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin Money in the bank

King Corbin or Corporate Corbin or Happy Corbin whatever name it might be, he always fits in his every gimmick. On 18th June 2017 Baron Corbin won his Money in the bank contract and it was assumed that this could be the biggest push of his WWE career. But On 15th August 2017 when WWE Champion Jinder Mahal was in a non title match with John Cena and John was about to pin Jinder, Baron Corbin attacked Cena causing disqualification, threw Cena out of the ring and Cashed in his MITB contract. As soon the bell rang and match started Baron Corbin was distracted by John Cena on the ringside which allowed Jinder Mahal to roll over Corbin for a three count pinfall victory and retain his championship.

This is interesting to see that out of 6 failed MITB cash-ins John Cena is somehow directly or indirectly involved in 3 of the failed Cash-ins.

So Baron Corbin was the Fourth MITB winner who failed to become Champion. After John and Damien, Baron Corbin was  the Third one with unsuccessful MITB cash in and second who lost via pin fall.

Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman Money in the bank

WWE’s Monster Among men won Money in the Bank Contract on 17th June 2018. After Rob Van Dam and John Cena, Braun Strowman became the third WWE wrestler to give prior notice to his opponent for a MITB contract Championship match. On 16th September 2018 at Hell in a Cell pay per view Braun Strowman had his MITB contract match with Champion Roman Reign inside Hell in a Cell with Mick Foley as a special guest referee. But during the match Brock Lesnar came out, broke the cage and attacked both the men allowing them not able to compete the match and the match was ended with the result of no consent as both the wrestlers were unable to continue the match.

In this way Braun Strowman becomes the Fifth WWE wrestler who won the MITB briefcase but failed to become the Champion. Also Braun was Fourth who had unsuccessful cash-in and First one to fail at cash-in via No-consent rule.

Otis

Otis Money in the bank

On 10th May 2020 Otis won his WWE money in the Bank briefcase. After his win he got into a feud with The Miz and John Morrison. Otis got so frustrated by Miz and Morrison’s cheap acts that he put on-line his MITB contract briefcase on-line against The Miz and lost to him as Otis’ tag team partner betrayed him. Afterward on 21st February 2021 at Elimination Chamber pay per view The Miz successfully Cashed-in the MITB contract against champion Drew Mcintyre who had just been attacked by Bobby Lashely after winning his 6 man elimination chamber match. After the assault by Bobby Lasley, The Miz came running Cashed-in his MITB briefcase and defeated Drew Mcintyre by delivering his finishing maneuver Skull Crushing Finale and became Second time WWE champion and both via Cash-in the Money in the Bank Contract.

Now Otis became the Sixth wrestler who won the MITB briefcase but failed in winning the championship title and Second to lose his MITB contract to another wrestler.

What do you think about this failed Money in the Bank Cash-ins. Who had suffered the biggest failure in his career due to his WWE storyline.

Who would be the next to fail in MITB cash-in.
