Wrestlemania 39 match card and results
Austin Theory vs. John Cena
Night 1 of WrestleMania kicked off with Austin Theory defending Raw’s United States Championship against John Cena. Theory was out to prove that he was a worthy champion, while Cena was looking to add another title to his illustrious career. In the end, as Cena attempted to hit the Attitude Adjustment on Theory, Theory inadvertently incapacitated the referee before escaping. Cena applied the STF submission on Theory, who submitted, but the referee was still out. Cena tried to wake up the referee, but as this occurred, Theory performed a low blow and then performed the A-Town Down on Cena and pinned him to retain his championship.
Men’s WrestleMania Showcase Match
The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford), Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis), The Viking Raiders (Erik and Ivar) (with Valhalla), and Braun Strowman and Ricochet squared off in the Men’s WrestleMania Showcase match. The match was fast-paced, with all the teams showcasing their skills. In the end, as Ricochet was looking for a Shooting Star Press, he landed on Dawkins’ knee, allowing Ford to hit the From the Heavens splash, and Dawkins rolled him up in a small package to pick up the win.
Logan Paul vs. Seth Rollins
Next up was a match between Logan Paul and Seth “Freakin” Rollins. Paul was looking to prove that he had what it takes to be a WWE superstar, while Rollins was out to teach him a lesson. In the end, as Paul was looking for a Curb Stomp, Rollins countered into a Liger Bomb. As Rollins was looking for the Stomp, KSI (disguised in a Prime Energy Drink bottle costume) came out and pulled Paul to safety. Paul then set Rollins on the announce table. As he was looking for a frog splash to Rollins on the table, Rollins pulled KSI to the table, and Paul inadvertently hit the frog splash to KSI. As Paul was looking for a Coast-To-Coast, Rollins countered into a superkick and hit the Stomp to pick up the victory.
Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio
The second match of the night was a father-son showdown between Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik. The climax saw Rey deliver the 619 to Dominik and looking for the frog splash, but Damian Priest pushed him. Legado del Fantasma, who recently joined Rey in reforming the Latino World Order, came down and beat down Finn Balor and Priest. Unbeknownst to the referee, Dominik pulled out a chain aiming to hit Rey with it, until Bad Bunny, who was serving as a guest Spanish commentator, stopped him. Rey then delivered the 619 and hit the Frog splash for the three-count. After the match, Rey celebrated with Legado and embraced his family.
Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley
Charlotte Flair defended the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley. Ripley became the first woman to defeat Charlotte in a singles match at WrestleMania. In the closing stages of the match, Flair climbed to the top-rope, looking for a fallway slam, but Rhea slammed Charlotte’s head into the top of the ring post, allowing her to hit an avalanche Riptide to become the new champion.
The Miz vs. Pat McAfee
WrestleMania hosts The Miz and Snoop Dogg came out to announce the attendance for Night 1 (80,497). Snoop Dogg then told The Miz that he should have a match. This brought out the returning Pat McAfee. Snoop Dogg, as the host, then made the match official. In the closing stages of the impromptu penultimate match, The Miz started mocking San Francisco 49ers player George Kittle, who was a spectator at ringside. Kittle then jumped the barricade and hit The Miz, unbeknownst to the referee. McAfee then delivered a Swanton to the Miz on the outside. McAfee then hit the Punt to The Miz to win the match. After the match, McAfee celebrated with Kittle.
Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship: The Usos vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn
In the main event of the night, The Usos defended the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. The match was a thrilling back-and-forth battle that kept the fans on the edge of their seats.
The Usos started strong, with Jimmy delivering an Uso Splash to Owens for a two-count. However, Zayn quickly turned the tables by delivering a brainbuster to Jey on the outside, allowing Owens to deliver a Swanton Bomb for a two-count. Jimmy and Jey then delivered multiple superkicks to Zayn for a two-count.
As the match progressed, both teams showed their resilience and determination to win. The Usos delivered double chokeslams to Owens through the announce table, but Zayn and Owens came back with their signature moves, the Helluva Kick and the Stunner, respectively.
In the end, it was Zayn who delivered three Helluva Kicks to Jey to win the match, making Owens a Grand Slam winner. The victory was a great moment for Zayn and Owens, who have been long-time friends and rivals in the WWE.
